Devices that comply with the terms of the USB 3.0 specification can operate at speeds of up to 5 Gbit/s, or 640 MB/s. The new standard, in addition to standard cables (for downward compatibility with USB 2.0 and 1.1), uses two additional, shielded pairs of cables for fast transfers.

USB 3.0 power supply:
each device receives a maximum of 900 mA (in USB 2.0 max. 500 mA). This increase means that it will not be necessary to equip some devices, e.g. USB 3.0 hard drives, with external power supplies or with special USB cables with two plugs that take up as many as two USB ports on the computer to provide sufficient power to the device.
